Andy McBean and the War of the Worlds The Amazing Adventures of Andy McBean Book 1 eBook Dale Kutzera
This is a good book for young readers. The characters are believable, well except for the alien and the key man, and I really liked how the secondary characters were developed. They were not just 'Red Shirts'. I did think the book failed at the very end when aliens, who had such poor technology that they passed up the thousands of better water sources in this solar system to land on Mars and landed in the Pacific Northwest instead of the middle of the Great Lakes, developed a grabber machine so sophisticated that it could communicate telepathically with a kid after minutes of exposure. Read it and don't think about the science too much. This is not science fiction but nice kid fiction. I admit I am dying to know if Dave survived.Tags : Amazon.com: Andy McBean and the War of the Worlds (The Amazing Adventures of Andy McBean Book 1) eBook: Dale Kutzera: Kindle Store, ebook,Dale Kutzera,Andy McBean and the War of the Worlds (The Amazing Adventures of Andy McBean Book 1),Salmon Bay Books,Juvenile Fiction Action & Adventure Survival Stories,Fiction Science Fiction Action & Adventure
Andy McBean and the War of the Worlds The Amazing Adventures of Andy McBean Book 1 eBook Dale Kutzera Reviews
I pre-read the books I read with my grandkids, just to be sure. This one ,, I AM sure of and look forward to reading it with him. Space aliens, other worlds, and acting to save humans and their world.
Thanks Dale for great story, well told, with filled lessons every youngster should learn.
I'm way too old to be reading this book. Don't care. It was one of the most enjoyable reads I've had. Re-lived my youth reading Asimov, Verne, Wells, late into the night, by flashlight, under the covers. Likeable characters, great story, well-edited. Highly recommended!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review!
That said, I enjoyed the book so much I later purchased my own copy so I could see the amazing illustrations in color! This book is a retelling of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds, from the perspective of Andy McBean, who is your average kid. There are moments that are funny, zany, and there are also some moments of depth that are equally worth noting. Overall, a great science fiction piece for kid and grownups alike.
This book reads like a novel for young adults, but also is enjoyable for the older set. The story moved along well, the characters were developed nicely and the suspence kept me turning pages long after I should have shut off the light. I liked the way the author portrayed the alien and the interaction it had with Andy McBean. The battle between humanity and the alien invasion was not overly graphic, but well described. The story flowed easily and was not predictable. I recommend this book for everyone.
Chose this to read aloud to my sons 8,9,12 overall a good message about learning from your own struggles to help you show compassion to others. Other than a few negative name calling sections this book was "clean" and the content appropriate/enjoyable for a tween.
I picked this up thinking it would be a quick, light-hearted read. I was mostly right. The kids behave as REAL kids, trying to live normal lives, but with hard circumstances in their backgrounds. Andy and his two friends are caught in the epicenter of an alien invasion and manage to work together to stop it. A friendly alien is integral to Andy's plans and becomes a friend in the process. Through it all, the kids do behave like believable 6th graders, making their triumph all the sweeter. I very much enjoyed this excellent book.
Probably geared more for younger readers but I enjoyed it, too. Very similar to War of the Worlds, and Mars Attacks, though this one has more sympathetic aliens, or at least the peon aliens are sympathetic. The story line is actually more serious than I expected but should be okay for kids who love adventure stories.
